Terms of service

Last updated: 2026. Reviewed by counsel: pending.

The agreement

By creating a Cobuho account or otherwise using the service, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Cobuho.

What Cobuho is

Cobuho is a private, end-to-end encrypted home for family photo sharing. Family-account holders post photos; their followers and co-posters view and react to them. Photos and captions are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded, and they remain unreadable to us.

Your account

You’re responsible for keeping your sign-in email secure and for keeping the device you use to log in safe. Cobuho uses end-to-end encryption, which means your private encryption key lives on your device. If you lose access to all of your devices, we cannot recover your photos for you. Use a passphrase you remember, or add a passkey on a second device, to preserve continued access.

Subscriptions and billing

Creating a family and posting photos requires an active subscription. We bill monthly or annually through Stripe. Payments are processed in the currency Stripe quotes you. Cancel anytime from Settings → Subscription → Manage; your subscription stays active through the end of the period you’ve already paid for.

If a payment fails, your subscription enters a grace period during which Stripe automatically retries. You retain full access during the grace period. If retries are exhausted, the subscription transitions to unpaid or canceled, posting is blocked, and existing followers retain access to content posted before the lapse.

Content you post

You retain full ownership of the photos and captions you post. By posting, you grant Cobuho the limited rights necessary to store, encrypt, and deliver your content to the people you have shared your family encryption key with.

Because we cannot read your content, we cannot moderate it. You agree not to use Cobuho to share content that is illegal, non-consensual, or that violates the rights of others, including children. Reports of policy violations can be sent to abuse@cobuho.com; we will cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement within the limits of what an E2EE system can technically provide.

Acceptable use

Don’t use Cobuho to harass, impersonate, send spam, attempt to break the encryption system, or otherwise interfere with the service. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that do.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We can suspend or terminate accounts for breach of these terms. On termination, your data is removed according to the rules in the privacy policy.

Limitation of liability

Cobuho is provided as-is. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of access to encrypted content resulting from loss of your encryption key.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a material way, we’ll notify you by email and through the app. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
